Mar 27, 2014 · Front tire rubbing on tie rod end I have a 99 TXT and yesterday, I discovered the passenger side tire is rubbing against the tire rod end. I've had these tires on the cart since last summer and there was clearance at that time, so this is a new problem.

Since I need new tires and was short of cash, I put on a smaller size tire and the rubbing stopped. During the past year, I have replaced the springs, shocks, tie rods, body bushings, and upper and lower ball joints. I then replaced tires back to the original size (225/70-15) and the tires began to rub again.

My son has a Cannondale Supersix frame and I today replaced the 23mm Gatorskin with 25mm GP4000 tyres. It's an issue with some derailleur/large tire combos on 29ers. You can avoid it a few ways: 1) Smaller tire 2) Top-pull derailleur (these are lower profile than dual-pull) 3) A direct mount derailleur with a clamp-band conversion (does the same thing as above). Options 2 and 3 will cost at least $40, I would think. A 9 speed derailleur would work.
